#YUGood? LA&PS Stress-buster Fest

It’s that time of year when you might be feeling the pressures of the Fall semester. Although being busy is a common experience for many students during mid-terms, it shouldn’t deter you from finding moments to de-stress and enjoy a much-deserved mental break.

This month, the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies (LA&PS) is hosting “#YUGood? LA&PS Stress-buster Fest” — a series of free events where you can kick back and make self-care a priority. Check out our activities and events below.

This event is offered in-person and is open to all York University students. Registration is not required.

Day 1: October 18, 2022

Relax with LA&PS

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

Location: Scott Library – Atrium

Finding moments to unwind is an important part of fostering a healthy headspace – especially as we move into the busier months of the semester. Put away the textbooks for a study break! This event features a range of fun, certified stress-busting activities that will help you prioritize mindfulness.

Event Activity Stations

Painting potted succulents

We all know that painting and gardening refresh the mind so why not combine them for the ultimate stress-buster? At this station, you’ll receive a free succulent to bring a hint of nature and calm into your study space. Then, you’ll let your creativity shine through by customizing your succulent’s clay pot with your own painted artwork. NOTE: Succulents are available to the first 100 guests.

LEGO free play

LEGO’s aren’t just for kids. They’re scientifically proven to help encourage mindfulness. Build, create and let your imagination soar at our LEGO free play table.

Build your own exam survival kit

Let’s face it: mid-terms and exams season can be stressful. Drop by this station to score free LA&PS swag filled with exam prep essentials and to learn more about academic supports at York University.  NOTE: Swag is available to the first 100 guests.

Learn with Learning Skills Services

Looking for ways to better manage your time? Study and learn more effectively? Join York University’s Learning Skills Peers for fun and games and leave with strategies to support your academic success.

Day 2: October 19, 2022

Paws for a Break

Time: Noon – 1:30 p.m.

Location: Scott Library – Atrium

Therapy pups are back on campus! Join us and our furry friends from the St. John Ambulance Therapy Dog program for an event that’s sure to give your mental well-being a positive boost.

This event is co-presented by the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies and Working for Inclusivity in Chemistry at York University.

Day 3: October 20, 2022

LA&PS Study Buddies

Time: 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Location: Scott Library – Atrium

Finding the right academic supports when you need them can be difficult if you’re not sure where to look. On October 20, we’re transforming the Scott Library Atrium into a study lounge with peer tutors who are ready to support your academic success. At this event, you’ll gain academic and wellness tips from the LA&PS Peer Mentor Network. We’re also offering drop-in peer tutoring from our SNACK (Student Numeracy Assistance Centre) and PASS (Peer-Assisted Study Sessions) programs.

We’ll end the event with a tranquil mindfulness walk hosted by the Peer Mentor Network that explores the beauty of Keele campus during autumn.
