World at Midday: Hossein Rezaeenia

Master percussionist, daf virtuoso and teacher Hossein Rezaeenia was born in Tehran in 1975. Hossein has performed in concerts and music festivals around the world with the Tehran Symphony Orchestra, and famous Iranian vocalists such as Master Mohammed Reza Shajarian and his son Homayoun Shajarian, Shahram Nazeri, Alireza Ghorbani, Bijan Kamkar, Sahar Mohammedi, Hesmeddin Seraj, Sami Yousuf and others. He has contributed to over 100 music albums and films, has given numerous daf workshops, and served as an adjudicator for percussion festivals throughout Iran. A luthier who has produced and manufactures his own brand of dafs – the “Rezaaneeia Daf,”Hossein also directs the Hooyar Daf Ensemble.
