We’re Ready! Community Disaster Prep Facilitator Training

The We’re Ready! Community Disaster Preparedness Facilitator Training is designed to equip community leaders and interested individuals with the knowledge and skills required to adapt and deliver We’re Ready! workshops within their own communities. The training emphasizes capacity-building, enabling facilitators to tailor workshop content to diverse local contexts.

The overall purpose of the WR! Community Disaster Preparedness workshop is to facilitate communities in designing and implementing their own disaster plans through interactive and engaging community-building activities.  The goal is that through participation, residents are collectively prepared for emergencies and respond in ways that reduce confusion and distress, prevent injury, save lives, and minimize or avoid damage.  WR! achieves this through a series of interactive and engaging activities that encourage participants to collaborate, share knowledge, and build strong social networks—key elements in effective disaster preparedness and response.

Learning Outcomes of the Facilitator Training:

1. Organize and deliver We’re Ready! Community Disaster Preparedness workshops in collaboration with local communities.
2. Adapt workshop content and activities to reflect the specific needs, risks, and contexts of participating communities.
3. Effectively implement all components of the workshop, from participant registration through to evaluation.

Deliverables of the Facilitator Training:

1. Adapt We’re Ready! workshop activities (from registration through to evaluation) to a selected community context and complete a “How I Will Apply” reflection for each activity.
2. Demonstrate facilitation skills through role-play exercises, applying workshop activities in a simulated environment to build experiential knowledge.
3. Facilitate the development of a community-based disaster plan, including hazard and evacuation maps, communication strategies, and a community capacity inventory.
