Unsafe Space Roundtable + Motion Capture Workshop
Former Connected Minds Artist-in-Residence Ar Ducao and research collaborator Bryné Hadnott will be back at York to host a roundtable and workshop on Thursday, April 2 presented by Sensorium: Centre for Digital Art and Technology.
Unsafe Space Roundtable
April 2, 2026
Sensorium Loft (326 CFA)
11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Sensorium and Connected Minds researchers Bryné Hadnott and Ar Ducao have been collecting stories of academic trauma and institutional betrayal from STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics) researchers for the new oral history project UNSAFE SPACE: Come In, Get Out. Supported by the Connected Minds Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) program, they will share clips and findings from their project so far, in conversation with Interim Sensorium Director Anne Sullivan, Myrtle Sodhi, and other project contributors.
Motion Capture Workshop
April 2, 2026
Sensorium Flex Space (326 CFA)
1:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
UNSAFE SPACE builds on and provides context for DuKode Studio’s award-winning sci-fi arthouse animated series THE GREAT TIT IS A BIRD (TGTIAB). On the DuKode team, Ar and Bryné work with motion capture (mocap) data from optical, inertial, and depth camera motion capture systems. In this workshop, Ar and Bryné will discuss how to work with data from these systems for the purpose of character animation. They will also demo some of the body and facial mocap tools they use. Recommended workshop software: Autodesk Maya, a free account on Mixamo.com, and Bannaflak Face Cap on iOS.
