Understanding Healing Processes: An Indigenous Perspective
Register here for Understanding Healing Processes: An Indigenous Perspective
Indigenous Peoples have passed their cultural personality, ceremonies, and therapeutic practices from generation to generation. However, their knowledge and ways to share these practices have been significantly impacted by different historical events. Colonialism has influenced the relationship between new settlers and Indigenous communities, creating a challenge to maintain these beliefs alive.
Eric Johnston, a self-identified Indigenous member and Cultural Manager of the Native Canadian Center of Toronto, will guide us through the history of Indigenous Peoples’ therapeutic contributions and their relevance on Western societies. He will share fundamental historical background to understand Indigenous outlooks and he will highlight scientific studies that support Indigenous Peoples’ contributions to mental wellness.
