The Development of Ukrainian Children’s Literature Translation Tradition from Russian Imperialism through the Soviet Era to the Global Context- (Brown Bag Lunch series)
Alina Zdrazhko
Based on the postcolonial approach to the interpretation of the hegemonic rule on the territory of Ukraine, this presentation examines colonizing policies designed to manifest the dominant ideology through translation into Ukrainian from the times of Russian imperialism through the Soviet era and to the global context. This research aims to analyze the mechanisms through which the hegemonic ideology manifested itself in translations of the children’s literature by studying translations against the historical and political background, comparing translations of the same text created at various historical periods. I argue that the shifts in the development of the Ukrainian translation tradition are grounded in historical events, political changes, financial factors, ideological impact, and language evolution.
