The Buzz on Bees: A Q&A session with YorkUs top bees experts on World Bee Day

Pollinators such as bees allow many plants, including many food crops, to reproduce. Not only do pollinators contribute directly to food security, but they are key to conserving biodiversity – a cornerstone of the Sustainable Development Goals. They also serve as sentinels for emergent environmental risks, signaling the health of local ecosystems.
Invasive insects, pesticides, land-use change and monocropping practices may reduce available nutrients and pose threats to bee colonies.
To raise awareness of the importance of pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the UN designated the 20th ofMay asWorld Bee Day.
The Faculty of Environmental Studies & Faculty of Science at York University has partnered to host an online event this World Bee Day. Featuring Professors: Amro Zayed, Laurence Packer, Sandra Rehan, Sheila Colla from the Bee Ecology, Evolution and Conservation (BEEc) and moderated by York Alumna Megan Leslie (BA ’03) President & CEO, World Wildlife Fund, join us for this engaging panel and Q&A. Participants will have an opportunity to submit questions in advance via registration and throughout the panel.
