Taking it Online: Making the Transition from the Face-to-Face Classroom (Online Course) – April 13, 2020

Looking to get some hands-on practice with moving face-to-face courses to the online environment? Join us for a fully online crash course in the practical pedagogy of eLearning for beginners as we use a range of online learning activities to introduce core principles and best practices for online learning. Participants will learn by doing as they collaborate with each other to transform a face-to-face course into a robust and pedagogically informed online learning environment in Moodle. This course is actively facilitated by a Teaching Commons instructor, and participants will be able to ask questions and access further support and resources by email, in online office hours, or through the course Moodle at any point.
By the end of this course, participants will have:
Redesigned an existing face-to-face course for the online environment
Explored a range of online learning activities from the student and instructor perspectives
Applied pedagogical best practices to the design of online learning
Practiced building online learning environments using Moodle
Note:Throughout this course, participants work in groups of 3-5 to transfer a sample course (provided by us) to the online environment. Groups will be assigned based on disciplinary areas. If you are working with a teaching team and would like to be assigned a group together, please indicate this when registering.
