STIs, Testing & Safer Practices

Sexually Transmitted Infections are among the most common infections reported each year worldwide. They can be contacted and spread through any form of sexual contact, but STIs are usually easily treatable. However, if left untreated, STIs can lead to various health risks and complications.

Why are we so afraid of these infections? More specifically, why are we so scared to talk about them? When we catch other infections such as the flu, we don’t immediately feel embarrassed. It seems that if an infection is transmitted sexually, we tend to get uncomfortable, because of the social norms surrounding sex. Our workshop takes a deep dive into what are STIs, how test, prevent and treat different types of STIs. Destigmatizing STIs starts with education and the communication skills needed when engaging in sexual activity. We recommend you attend Sexual Health 101 to get a general knowledge of safer sex practices.
