Scholarly Skills Workshop: Making the Most of the Journey to Your PhD
The Faculty of Graduate Studies will be hosting a series entitled Scholarly Skills. Join us for our first workshop!
Join Dr. Leela Viswanathan, author of The Deliberate Doctorate: A Values-Focused Journey to Your PhD, for a motivational professional development workshop on making the most of your doctoral experience. After completing this workshop, you will have more insight into identifying and optimizing your skills, building supportive networks and relationships, and working through the emotional aspects of your PhD journey so that you can define success on your own terms. If you are launching your PhD journey, this workshop will get you started in reflecting on your PhD as an experience – not simply a destination, but a journey – to align your goals with what matters the most to you. And if you are further along your PhD journey, then this workshop offers you an opportunity to reflect and connect with the purpose of your PhD. No matter where you find yourself on your PhD journey, or what academic discipline has become your home, this workshop will help you to build a values-focused journey to your PhD, and beyond.
Master’s students considering pursuing a doctoral degree are also encouraged to attend this motivational workshop. Additionally, graduate faculty and program administrators (GPDs, GPAs, etc.) are welcome to attend.
Copies of Dr. Leela Viswanathan’s book will be available for sale after the workshop. The book is also available as a free, open access PDF from: https://www.ubcpress.ca/the-deliberate-doctorate
Note: this is a brown bag session where participants can bring their own lunch/refreshments, if they wish.
