Powwow as Pedology: Educator Panel

Powwow remains a site of important cultural resurgence for First Nations across Canada, with countless gatherings occurring across the Great Lakes region. However, the role movement and dance can play within knowledge and creation and as a pedagogical framework, continues to be underrepresented in educational studies. Panellists will share dibaajimowinaan – stories and experiences – in challenging narratives around powwow and offer insights into how Indigenous movement and pedagogy can foster critical consciousness within Anishinaabewin.

Featuring:

Karen Pheasant-Neganigwane: PhD (c), Anishinaabe, Wikimikoong, Mount Royal University.

Neegawnee Oshkawbaywis, Raymond Deleary: Anishinaabe

John Hupfield: Assistant Professor, Anishinaabe, Wasauksing First Nation, York University Faculty of Education.

Co-Presented by Miikaans: Mobile Lab and ISAY, Indigenous Students’ Association at York, as a part of Indigenous Week @ York.
