The Nellie Langford Rowell Library at York University is excited to announce our First Annual Nellie Library Undergraduate Student Conference, to be held virtually on March 4 and 5, 2021. The Nellie looks forward to showcasing the amazing work being produced by our strong, committed, and creative students.
To close our conference, on March 5, beginning at 3:30 p.m., we are thrilled to host a Poetry Slam! We encourage compelling, thought-provoking poetry submissions which are engaged with feminist, anti-racist, intersectional, interdisciplinary and/or decolonizing approaches. If selected, depending on the number of applicants, you will be asked to present for 5-10 minutes, followed by a brief question-and-answer period.
Who is eligible:
If you are a current York University undergraduate student, and if you have poetry of which you are proud, which you are eager to share with your peers and the larger York community, and which meets some or all the criteria above, we strongly encourage you to apply.
If this is the first time you have considered presenting at a conference, it could seem daunting. However, this is a wonderful opportunity for you to present your work in a supportive and encouraging environment, and to receive respectful, constructive feedback. You will develop, or strengthen, your poetry presentation skills as you showcase your own work, and as you support your peers in their presentations. The confidence you gain from participating could enrich your York experience, and the skills and networks you develop will serve you as an undergraduate student and beyond, as you move to graduate studies, or into the workplace. After the conference, you will receive a Certificate of Participation.
