Join writer and geographer Itamar Vieira Junior for Plowing the Past, Harvesting the Present: The Decolonial Narrative Perspective.

Vieira Jr was born in Salvador, Bahia, in Brazil, and has a Ph.D. in Ethnic and African Studies from UFBA, the Federal University of Bahia. His best-seller novel, Torto Arado, received Portugal’s Leya Prize, Brazil’s most prestigious literary award, the Jabuti, as well as the Oceanos Prize. The author was also a finalist for the Jabuti prize for his book of short stories, The Executioner’s Prayer. Verso published the English version of Torto Arado in 2023, Crooked Plow. Vieira Jr has recently published his highly anticipated second novel, Salvar o Fogo.

This event will be held in Portuguese, but English interpretations will be provided.
