National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Film Screening Keele Campus (Muffins for Granny)
Please join us in honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2024.
We will be screening Muffins for Granny (1 hour and 27 minutes), followed by a brief reflection and discussion with Susan Dion, associate vice-president Indigenous initiatives.
Muffins For Granny takes you deep into the Canadian Shield, north of Lake Superior, on a journey to Nadia McLaren’s home to speak with Elders and family members, seeking a better understanding of her life-long confusion over her Granny’s pain. A sacred tobacco offering was given to each of the Elders interviewed and, for many, it was the first time they spoke of their experiences in residential schools. These charismatic Elders share with us their stories of personal and cultural survival, with the hope that it may somehow begin the healing this country and its people desperately need.
