Join us for our second screening of this year’s Nat Taylor Tuesday series, with an online presentation of Michelle Mohabeer’s Queer Coolie-tudes, and a post screening discussion with the filmmaker and Prof. John Greyson.
Queer Coolie-tudes is a queer ethnography that reclaims the slur of Coolie and compellingly visualizes the intergenerational lives, histories, creole identities, familial relations and sexualities of a diverse range of subjects (artists, academics, and activists) from the queer Indo-Caribbean and Black Caribbean diasporas in Canada.

Biography:
Michelle Mohabeer is Guyana born and lives in Toronto, she is an award-winning filmmaker and academic. Mohabeer’s films have exhibited worldwide at over 300 festivals, conferences and galleries, and collected by over 60 University libraries across the U.S, Canada and the Caribbean. Her films have been profiled or written about (or mentioned) in Film Fatales: Independent Women Directors, The Romance of Transgression in Canada, North of Everything, The Bent Lens, and Queering Canada: A Collection of Essays. Michelle Mohabeer teaches at York University School of Gender, Sexuality and Women’s Studies. Future projects include a feature doc and a contributing editor of the critical anthology, Reframing the Nation: Racialized & Queer Diasporic Women of Colour and Indigenous Canadian Independent Women Filmmakers 1990-2020.
