Mindful Movement Belly Dance for All Bodies

The Centre for Sexual Violence Response, Support and Education will be offering belly dance as a part of our Self-Care is Not Selfish series for community members who have experienced sexual violence.
We are partnering with Shaila Khan to provide this amazing opportunity.

Description:
Mindful Movement Belly Dance for All Bodies
Belly dance is an act of celebration designed for all bodies and abilities. In this trauma-informed workshop, participants will be able to increase their movement capacity by exploring basic belly dance techniques such as shimmies, isolations, undulations, travelling steps and poses. Belly dance is both a cultural art form as well as a mindfulness tool that has been linked to benefits such as improve mood, cognition and stress reduction. Participants will get to experience belly dance not just as a recreational exercise, but one that builds towards greater resiliency and mind-body integration.
Movement notes:
This workshop is open to people of all levels of experience. It requires a moderate level of range of movement, including arm and leg extensions and floor work, with an emphasis on cardio. This workshop is designed to be gentle enough for those with injuries or limited mobility. The instructor will provide as many adaptable dance options as possible.
What to bring:
Reusable water bottle. Bathrooms are available on the same floor, where you can change into comfortable workout clothes. Note: shoes are not allowed in the studio. Hip scarves will be available for use.
