Miikaanensing Indigenous Reading Room Opening Ceremony

Join us to formally unveil Miikaanensing, York University Libraries’ Indigenous Reading Room! Miikaanensing is located on the 2nd floor of Scott Library on the Keele campus of York University. The goal of this space is to provide Indigenous students with exclusive use of a safe, quiet place to engage with their studies and easy access to a curated collection of Indigenous resources.

To promote the act of Indigenous placemaking within the library, the Libraries hosted an Indigenous Student Art Competition. This project aimed to co-create the Miikaanensing space with Indigenous community members, both with the creation of art and its selection to purchase three to be installed in the Indigenous Reading Room.

At this opening event, the winners of the Indigenous Student Art Competition will be announced and light refreshments will be provided.
