The city of Toronto possesses one of the largest and oldest Guyanese diasporas outside of Guyana. Join us for a conversation exploring the Guyanese-Canadian narratives of migration and the role of art in telling women’s migration stories featured in the new book, Liminal Spaces: Migration and Women of the Guyanese Diaspora. Through their art, photography, memoir-essays and curatorial practices, the Contributors of Guyanese heritage bring the voices of women to the fore, unveiling how the relationship between these two places–Guyana and Canada–has indelibly shaped their lives as they grapple with ideas of homeland, place, and accountability.
Speakers: Grace Aneiza Ali, Sandra Brewster, Erika DeFreitas, Natalie Hopkinson, Serena Hopkinson, and Suchitra Mattai
