Inclusion Days: Belonging in a Digital World

When did you first feel you belonged online, that you were seen and in community with others? Where were you? Who were you with? What were you doing?
To me, belonging in the digital world means having ways to safely and freely use digital tools to speak and express ourselves, build power together in social movement, and create and dream together. This means having safe spaces where I can engage with people I choose to, question, learn, play, change, experiment, and where I can represent myself how I choose.
In this talk, I’ll share examples of ways that I am working to make a digital world where I belong in these ways. I’ll share perspectives on codesign; design justice and encoding a more inclusive internet one emoji at a time; on digital security and surveillance; and our right to private communication on and offline in our public socializing, organizing for social justice, and our most intimate exchanges.
