Human Rights in Practice: Protecting children in conflict and post-conflict situations
York graduate Pernille Ironside (JD ’99) has been working for the United Nations for the past 16 years protecting children and delivering humanitarian assistance to the most vulnerable in countries as diverse as Iraq, State of Palestine (Gaza), Yemen, the Philippines, Pakistan, Nepal, South Sudan, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, for which she has received numerous commendations. She currently serves as UNICEF’s Deputy Representative in Nigeria. Ms. Ironside will be in Toronto as this year’s recipient of York University’s Tentanda Via alumni award, and will give a talk on campus about how her interest in social justice and human rights led her to work in conflict zones and natural disasters around the world, protecting children and women.
