Guide to Perfectionism & Procrastination
When a person is striving to achieve perfection, they end up having a high standard to the point where even the thought of getting started brings up feelings of fear and anxiety.
A person who struggles with a dilemma uses procrastination as a protective mechanism to avoid the possibility of failing because they’ve internalized a perfect view of themselves and want to protect themselves from not achieving that view. Even though this type of person has a high need to succeed, they also have a high fear of failure making it more likely to procrastinate on a task.
