Entrepreneurship 101

Join us for an introductory workshop on entrepreneurship designed specifically for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. This session will introduce practical frameworks for translating research, technical expertise, and emerging ideas into potential innovations for real-world solutions.

Participants will learn about the entrepreneurial journey, explore the steps involved in moving from research to application, and discover resources available to support them along the way. No prior business experience or fully developed idea is required.

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand the foundational concepts of innovation and entrepreneurship and how they apply within a research context.
• Identify opportunities to translate research findings, specialized knowledge, or technical expertise into practical solutions.
• Apply introductory frameworks to assess a problem, explore potential users, and develop an early-stage idea.
• Understand the key stages involved in moving from research or academic study toward innovation, commercialization, or venture creation.
• Develop a more entrepreneurial mindset by approaching uncertainty through experimentation, iteration, and continuous learning.
• Build confidence in communicating ideas, testing assumptions, and taking the first steps toward launching an initiative.
• Identify relevant programs, tools, mentors, funding opportunities, and institutional resources that can support their journey.
