Emancipation Day Virtual Celebration

You are invited!

2021 marks the First National Emancipation Day across Canada, as championed by Rosemary Sadlier. More than 25 years ago Sadlier initiated the first of many commemorations of August 1st as Emancipation Day. She secured national support for Emancipation Day and worked with allies like the Honourable David Onley, the former Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, and facilitated joint celebrations of Emancipation Day and Simcoe Day at the Fort York National Historic site in Ontario, reaching upwards of 2000 people.

Now, 13 years after securing unanimous approval in the Province of Ontario, it has received similar unanimous support nationally. Sadlier saw the passage of Bill M-36 introduced by the Honourable Majid Jowhari, MP, creating August 1st as Emancipation Day across Canada!

Hosted by Patricia Mawa, the Executive Vice President of Silvertrust Media and Afroglobal Television, the event features an exciting lineup of speakers and performers.

We hope to see you on August 1st at 5 p.m. on YouTube Live @EmancipationDayCanada!
