Department of English presents: Cody Caetano

CODY CAETANO is a writer, off-reserve member of Pinaymootang First Nation, and an Associate Literary Agent at the Transatlantic Agency. His debut memoir, Half-Bads in White Regalia, came out through Penguin Canada’s Hamish Hamilton imprint and was an instant national bestseller. Excerpts of Half-Bads in White Regalia received the 2020 Indigenous Voices Award for Best Unpublished Prose. He received an MA in English in the field of Creative Writing in 2019 and an HBA in Professional Writing and Communication & English (with Distinction) from the University of Toronto in 2017, where he co-edited Echolocation Magazine and served as Editor-in-Chief of UTM Mindwaves. Cody’s chapbook, Pleasure Dome Poems, was released in January 2019 through Knife/Fork/Book, and his writing has appeared in The Globe and Mail, The Walrus, PRISM International, BAD NUDES, Hart House Review, and elsewhere. In 2022, CBC Books named him a Writer to Watch.

Since he is currently stationed in New Brunswick, I would like Cody to virtually “visit” (on Zoom) my Senior Prose Workshop to discuss the role of literary agents in publishing, as well as his own writing and multifaceted career. The students will benefit from his deep understanding of both the artistic and professional sides of the writing industry, as well as his specific perspective on the creation and dissemination of stories as informed by Indigenous ways of knowing.
