Circumspection – a painting and installation exhibition by Cassandra Jesik and Dani De Angelis

Through the integration of painting and installation,upper year Visual Arts students Cassandra Jesik and Dani De Angelis’s painting and installation exhibit Circumspection will explore themes of vulnerability and the complex interrelations of physical and emotional space from the female perspective.
“How does female identity change the experience of urban space? While the city can be seen as lively and romantic, there lies a dual notion of anxiety and the prospect of danger. In this way, the lines between public and a more private, inner space are blurred.The paintings in this exhibition will create an atmosphere that reflects the practice of female circumspection, perceived danger and everyday life. Use of spray-paint, weathered wood and textile imply aspects of decay within the city yet can also represent a form of scar on the urban artifice. Despite dialogues of equality and inclusion, the feminine body remains under threat. Therefore, scars on the streamlined and efficient urban surface can be seen to dually reference fear and inaccessibility due to the perception of danger in a seemingly progressive society.”
