What does it mean to be a treaty person in Toronto? A Treaty Guide for Torontonians artfully examines the complex intercultural roots of treaty relationships in the place we now call Toronto, tracing the history of treaty making between Indigenous nations and between Indigenous nations and the Crown. A Treaty Guide inspires an active approach to treaty awareness through land-based, embodied learning tools that help readers ground their relationship to this history and take up their treaty responsibilities in the present.

Created by the Talking Treaties Collective of Ange Loft, Victoria Freeman, Martha Stiegman, and Jill Carter, A Treaty Guide for Torontonians is part of Jumblies Theatre + Arts’ multi-year Talking Treaties project and is supported by the 2022 Toronto Biennial of Art.
