Black Excellence & Grit Speaker Series | Frank Stones

The York University Indigenous Alumni Network (YUIAN) together with the Black Indigenous Varsity Student-Athlete Alliance (BIVSAA) are pleased to present the November session of the Black Excellence & Grit Speaker Series.

Frank Stones. Black Excellence and Grit Speaker Series presented by the York U Black Indigenous Varsity Student-Athlete Alliance. Celebrating Black Excellence.

Please join us on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 for a conversation with York alumnus Frank Stones (BA ’08) who will share his personal story of arriving at York University on a basketball scholarship and becoming his family’s first university graduate; his journey navigating York as a student-athlete and exploring his Indigeneity; and his tips and insights for a student-athlete’s successful transition to life as a working professional.

Frank was born to an Ojibwe mother from Little Current, ON and a father from Barbados. The youngest of five children, he was the only one to graduate from high school and go on to receive a post-secondary education. After graduating from York, Frank went on to pursue a career as a police officer, first with York Region and then with Hamilton Police where he works today. Frank is also a real estate agent with the REALTORS® Association of Hamilton-Burlington.
