About this Event
Join Sarah Bay-Cheng, PhD and Dean of the School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design at York University and Mariel Marshall*, core member of immersive performance company bluemouth inc. in a discussion about a new initiative to advance the way artists can represent their work in the digital sphere.
Many existing tools and technologies such as digital archiving, recommendation engines and online search rely on models of the performing arts that are outdated or unreflective of the ways that artists are currently making work. Often, these tools were created with minimal input or consultation from artists while relying on content that artists produce. The aim of this initiative is to help build a bridge between artists and digital technologies, so that artists can play an active role in guiding how these tools are created and designed in the future.
Joining the discussion is leading researcher Daniela Rosu, postdoctoral fellow at the University of Toronto, who specializes in the application of knowledge representation and reasoning techniques to diverse disciplines, including the performing arts domain.
This discussion is suitable for all artists or members of the performing arts, no technological expertise is required.
*Mariel Marshall’s participation in this event is made possible through StagePage, and acknowledges the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
