Speaker Bios:

Dr. Melanie Baljko‘s research focus is on interrogating and intervening in the complex relationships among technology, disability, and ableism. Her work focuses on situated, contextual, and experiential aspects of human interaction with technology, with efforts towards innovation in co-creation and participatory design approaches to digital and social technologies. She does this work as an Associate Professor of Computer Science in Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), with graduate appointments to Science and Technology Studies, Critical Disability Studies, and Digital Media. She directs the Practices in Enabling Technologies (PiET) research lab, an interdisciplinary research lab at York University which focuses on research projects that seek to intervene in technoableism.

Christo El Morr is a Professor of Health Informatics and the Director of the Centre for Feminist Research (CFR) at York University. He is also a Research Scientist at North York General Hospital, Toronto. His research aligns with an Equity Informatics perspective, covering areas such as Equity AI, Patient-Centered Virtual Care, Global Health Promotion for Equity, and Human Rights Monitoring
