Grand Opening of the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery of York University

Celebrating the Grand Opening of the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery

We are excited to announce the grand opening of the Joan and Martin Goldfarb Gallery on Wednesday, Nov. 13, from 7 to 10 p.m. This momentous occasion honours the generous contributions of Joan and Martin Goldfarb, longtime supporters of the arts at York University.

The new stand-alone gallery, designed by internationally acclaimed architect Siamak Hariri, features a stunning butterfly-shaped design with three distinct exhibition spaces and a multifunctional pavilion. This space will serve as a vital hub for art presentations, performances and workshops, enhancing community engagement and promoting the artistic vision of York University.

The opening will showcase three inaugural exhibitions:

  • Plains Horizon by Lori Blondeau, featuring stones collected from the gallery’s site, alongside a poignant painting by her mother;
  • Manual Assembly, a group exhibition with works by nine artists exploring themes of accumulation and assemblage, including El Anatsui and Jeneen Frei Njootli; and
  • Abstract Legacies, which highlights the significance of York’s art collection, showcasing pieces donated by the Goldfarbs.

In addition to the exhibitions, attendees will enjoy remarks and a special performance by Lori Blondeau, as well as refreshments.

We invite everyone to join us in celebrating this pivotal moment in the University’s artistic journey.
