Abstract

Professor Ducange will present the importance of social movements in contemporary France and how Marxism has helped make them special compared to other countries. The talk will trace the history of Marxism since the 19th century and also shed light on more recent events.

Bio

Jean-Numa Ducange is a Professor of Contemporary History at the Rouen-Normandie University, France, and member of Institut Universitaire de France. He is the author of Jules Guesde: The Birth of Socialism and Marxism in France (Palgrave, 2020). Among his latest edited books there are The End of the Democratic State: Nicos Poulantzas, a Marxism for the 21st Century (with R. Keucheyan, Palgrave, 2018) and Selected Writings of Jean Jaurès: On Socialism, Pacifism and Marxism (with E. Marcobelli, Palgrave, 2021).
