EGY WI23 Socio-Legal Studies

The Graduate Program in Socio–Legal Studies launched the PhD program beginning in September 2010–2011. York’s PhD in Socio–Legal Studies is at the vanguard of a growing number of postgraduate programs in Europe and North America in interdisciplinary legal studies. Our PhD is the first such doctoral program in Canada not based in a law school. This exciting, interdisciplinary program builds on York’s pioneering Law and Society and Criminology programs and its tradition of interdisciplinary research.

Students who are accepted into our MA and PhD programs will join a faculty with a strong commitment to research and scholarship. We are involved in the building of an academic community of socio–legal scholars through our participation and leadership in professional associations as well as through our projects and published work. Our program consists of scholars drawn from law and society, criminology, political science, sociology, psychology, history, communication studies, women’s studies, and law.
