Making a Will is the most important thing you can do to ensure your wishes are carried out and your loved ones are provided for. That said, a number of issues can arise with an improperly drafted Will, or worse yet, no Will at all.

Rebecca Studin (BA’04, JD’08) will share some practical tips from her courtroom experience as an estates litigator on how to avoid a costly and emotionally taxing estate litigation, how to protect yourself against elder abuse, and how to plan for the well-being of your loved ones.

Studin is a partner at de Vries Litigation LLP. Before joining the firm, she practised estates and commercial litigation at a full-service international law firm in Toronto. Studin acts for clients in respect of a broad range of estates matters, including will challenges, will interpretation and rectification applications, contested guardianship and power of attorney disputes, complex probate applications, and contested passing of accounts.

She obtained her law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School after earning her honours bachelor of arts degree from Glendon College, York University. Following her call to the bar in 2009, Studin was selected as a Fox Scholar and spent a year training as a barrister at the Middle Temple, Inns of Court, in London, UK.

Studin is fluent in French.
