Women in STEM Wikipedia Edit-a-thon
York University Libraries will be hosting our annual Women in STEM Wikipedia Edit-a-thon from 1 to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6. This in-person event will be held in Scott Library room 530.
Honouring the memory of Ada Lovelace, the first computer programmer whose contributions were overlooked for decades, this event is held every year to celebrate, recognize and most of all promote and remember the contributions of women in all the various STEM fields. Women in STEM are underrepresented in Wikipedia and this edit-a-thon is one way to help create a more representative Wikipedia.
We encourage anyone to drop-by and to contribute, no previous Wikipedia editing experience necessary. We will have facilitators and lists of articles to work on to help novices get up and running. This year’s Edit-a-thon will focus on creating and improving both Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items about women in STEM fields.
More information on the event can be found through the York University Libraries research guides website.
