Step Into the Watershed: World Water Day
Community members can celebrate World Water Day by immersing themselves in the story of water through the Biinaagami Giant Floor Map — an 8-by-11 metre interactive experience that brings the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence watershed to life.
Trace the steps of an Anishinaabe Water Walker as you explore the vibrant blues of the lakes’ depths, follow their flowlines, and discover the original Indigenous names of waterbodies. Learn how land and water are interconnected, and reflect on the places most meaningful to you.
This unique installation combines Indigenous knowledge, augmented reality storytelling, and hands-on learning to deepen our understanding of water’s role in sustaining life and culture. Whether you’re a student, educator, or community member, this event invites you to step beyond the water’s edge and into its depths.
The event is to raise awareness, spark dialogue, and celebrate the waters that connect us all.
This is a giant floor map – with QR Codes, that people can interact with. There are no barriers or anything so it will not obstruct pathways for access (people can walk on it). The map is borrowed from Canadian Geographic Education.
