Ritual of Reuse: Reimagining Game Controller Lifecycles for Life-Centered Futures Workshop
We use gaming controllers almost every day, but the environmental and social impacts of their life-cycle are often ignored. From material extraction to labour exploitation, internet pollution, and discarded e-waste, the consequences of gaming controllers are deep-rooted and felt universally by humans, non-humans, and ecosystems. Using a Life-Centred lens, this participatory design workshop incorporates an immersive role-playing game with a burial ritual for deceased technology, and provides an opportunity to collectively take apart and recycle our gaming controllers while contributing to a more sustainable future. The workshop is hosted by Thalia Godbout, Laurel Green, Rachel Remesat, and Omar Shabbar.
