Lectures & Snacks: Campus Farming for Health and Food Justice

Calling all graduate and mature students – come for the snacks, stay for the stories!

Lectures & Snacks is your chance to mingle with fellow York grad and mature students over light refreshments while enjoying a short, engaging talk by a student, faculty or staff member. Think of it as a mini lecture with maximum curiosity…and snacks!

Session #1: Campus Farming for Health and Food Justice
Speaker: Phyllis Novak, Director of Maloca Living Labs – Community and Native Plant Gardens at York University

Ready to trade the library for the garden? Tour Maloca Community Gardens, York University’s very own campus farm, and dig into regenerative agriculture, land relationships and community gardening. Discover how growing food on campus connects to sustainability, climate action, community health and food justice. This session includes a guided tour, a short talk and some light earthwork (yes, you can get your hands a little dirty – if you want to!).

You’re welcome to drop in, but if you think you’ll be coming, please register. Registration helps us plan for enough food, without so much that it goes to waste (because food sustainability matters here too!). It also lets us account for allergies and dietary preferences, so everyone can enjoy the snacks safely.

Date: Monday, October 19
Time: 1 – 3PM
Location: Maloca Gardens [South west corner of Keele campus]

Come connect with other curious grad and mature students, enjoy a snack and leave with fresh ideas (and maybe a few new friends).
