Jazz at Midday with guitarist Mike Murray

Acclaimed guitarist, composer and educator Mike Murray, performs as part of the Department of Music’s Jazz at Midday Series. Join us as he performs a collection of original compositions to the McLean Performance Studio on Thursday, October 2.

Mike Murray is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist, composer, bandleader and music educator based in Toronto. Proficient in a wide variety of styles including pop, rock, classical, jazz, blues, and musical theatre, as well as international styles including latin folk, Indian music and more, he performs and records with a diverse array of artists and organizations in many different settings. Some of these include the Art of Time Ensemble, musical theatre productions of Beetlejuice, Back to the Future, MJ: The Musical, Hamilton, Dear Evan Hansen, Titanique, Mamma Mia, Little Shop of Horror, Jagged Little Pill, Mahabharata, award-winning comedy act Garrett Jamieson and Sprattacus, Bollywood superstars Karthik and Vijay Prakash, internationally renowned Sufi rock outfit Mekaal Hasan Band, for which he serves as musical director, and many more.

He also composes and performs his own music with the Mike Murray Group, a genre-bending ensemble featuring virtuosic musicianship and deep, imaginative composition drawing on his broad range of influences and experience. In addition to his performance career, Mike is an avid and experienced educator both independently and as a long-standing faculty member at Centennial College in their Music Industry Arts and Performance program as well as developing the progressive music curriculum at York University.
