Ecological footprint of the city of Reykjavík
The Faculty of Environmental & Urban Change is hosting Rakel Bærings Halldórsdóttir, a recent graduate of the master’s program at the University of Iceland, who will share her research on generating ecological footprint data for the City of Reykjavík.
Rakel’s research scales the national Icelandic data, from the National Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts, using data from several Icelandic sources to generate local ecological footprint data. We will also be joined by a special guest, Hrönn Hrafnsdóttir, to share the perspective and experience of city officials using the ecological footprint data.
The University of Iceland is a core institutional partner of the International Ecological Footprint Learning Lab (IEFLL). Students at the University of Iceland are trained in courses at York University to produce the National Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity Accounts, later going on to complete their thesis research related to ecological footprint. There are several IEFLL partners based in Iceland, one being the City of Reykjavík.
