Ecological Footprint and Biocapacity in the context of Indigenous Title and Treaty

This webinar explores Indigenous rights and land claims, with a focus on how biocapacity can be used as a tool in the context of Indigenous title and claims. We will begin with Dr. Minakshi Das, Adjunct Professor at York University, who will discuss the intersections of environmental law and Indigenous rights. Drawing on her research in both Canada and India, Dr. Das will share insights into the legal and political dimensions of Indigenous land rights across different contexts. Following this, Kaitlin Pal and Dr. Katie (Kish) Linden will present their work using a Two-Eyed Seeing approach. Their presentation highlights how environmental data can be meaningfully combined with Indigenous knowledge and cultural perspectives to support more holistic and inclusive understandings of land and resource governance.
