Since the 2008–2009 financial crisis, the subsequent uprisings in the Global South and the Occupy movements around the globe, artists have increasingly turned to new models of artistic production. In her new book, Curating the Commons: Socially Engaged Public Art, Katia Arfara explores this shift through an in-depth study of performance-centered public projects she curated.

KATIA ARFARA is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at NYU Abu Dhabi, affiliated faculty at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, and an independent curator. Her scholarship and curatorial work focus on migration, ecology, memory and the politics of representation.
