Belated, but still Ablaze: Print Area Exhibition (2024)
For 20+ years the Print Media Area has mounted a yearly exhibition of upper-level artwork from the combined VISA 3070/4070 course. This year-long course has enabled students to experiment, hone and broaden their work in print media while developing a closely knit community between students, faculty and technicians, in a manner unique in the Department of Visual Art & Art History. “Belated, but still Ablaze” alliteratively celebrates the legacy of this course and the stellar exhibition of print work that never was…until now.
Poised with their work ready to go, we were not in the end able to mount the 2024 Print Area exhibition. Yet, the work was so strong and the group spirit of the class so energized, that I knew it had to be shown someday. Upon reaching out to the class 18 months later, with students now graduated, some now in graduate programs, some moved elsewhere, they responded with an enthusiastic “YES”, and their work has now come back to York from far and wide.
